A Geek Goes Flying

I have a desk in my bedroom that started out life as a slab of GLASHOLM glass held up by a pair of ARTUR trestles , though each trestle was eventually replaced by a sturdy two drawer vertical filing cabinet (like this ). It’s not my preferred place to work but sometimes the dogs are there and it just fits, y’know? It doesn’t get higher end stuff the living room workstation gets, but it’s more than usable. It’s kind of a Ship of Theseus situation, pieces get constantly changed out - is it the same workspace? Rigg Monitor Mount with keyboard, monitor, mouse, battery Okay, here’s the final form. I rotated the legs of the  Rigg Monitor Mount around the cross-bar (see below), providing ample room for at least a 75% keyboard (pictured is a Keychron K2 with Kailh Box Royal switches). I have the AVLT Thin Client VESA Mount attached to the Rigg Monitor Mount backplate, holding a MacBook Air retina and mounting a UPERFECT 15.6 monitor, which looks and works great. The cheap iPhone mount is currently supporting a Zendure X5 battery pack (USB-C PD45W; looks like it might be discontinued, but the X3 would work, too). I have the laptop linked to the display with a cheap short USB-C cable ; the battery is connected with another cheap, short-ish USB-C cable . How I got here. Assembled laptop table with 11" Air, K6, M535 Never could quite get the Foldable Laptop Desk to balance properly on my sofa, and it kept things in too close to my chest in any case. The LapGear MyDesk is fine for what it is, but a bit awkward, and if a laptop isn’t compatible with the Air 75, doesn’t provide a mechanical keyboard option. Also, not the best for head position / sight line. Now, though, I’ve assembled the GOAT. The original plan was to get any adjustable height ‡ desk ( e.g. ) and bolt a VESA mount ( e.g. ) to it. But that just seemed clumsy, too/top heavy, and overkill (my svelte Apple hardware just doesn’t require the hardware to support > 17 lbs). New gig. Working from home. My old “workstation” wasn’t cutting it. Have a Dell U2311H that was sitting on its OEM stand, a Unicomp SpaceSaver M keyboard. My desk is a little (36.5" wide, 17" deep workspace) unfinished wood desk I sanded and stained (looks awesome, cost next to nothing). I didn’t have a lot of real estate left between the monitor base and that huge keyboard. So. Time to do something about it. Monitor I kit-bashed two pieces together (literally with a bit of duck tape - I happened to have some black Duck brand tape, 1 7/8" wide, that I wrapped around the upper (inner) tube of the floor stand; the desk mount tube for the monitor arm was just a touch thicker), because the desk (which has a 1 1/2" drawer hanging down, that makes it way too thick for any of the “clamps on the edge of the desk” mounts I could find, and I didn’t want to drill a hole through the desk - which, with the drawer, probably would’d have worked in any case).
