Temple DUO 24 Pedal Board

Ditching the NUX for wireless (it’s fine for what it is, but I don’t need to be maintaining multiple sets of tones, cluttering my brain with multiple interfaces, etc., when that time/space could be better put to mastering the Fractal learning curve). I’ve already shifted to using S/PDIF to my home stereo but now I needed a wireless rig (dogs), and to keep everything bundled together and allow for “two cable” operation. This achieves that.

The pieces

  • Temple DUO 24 pedalboard, which may be overkill given the devices I currently have, but it’s at least not cramped (the 17 would have been), and gives some room for growth.
  • Fractal FM3, which needs/provides:
    • Power (120V IEC)
    • XLR output(s) for the FRFR / front of house
    • S/PDIF output for the home theater
    • Wireless in for the instrument
    • Audio input for accompaniment tracks etc.
  • Line 6 Relay G75, which needs/provides:
    • Power (9V⎓500mA)
    • 1/4" output to the FM3
  • Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 2 Plus, which needs/provides:
    • Power In (120V IEC)
    • Power Out (120V NEMA 5-15 100W, DC out including two 9V⎓500mA outputs and multiple lower current 9V DC ports)
  • BeatBuddy Mini 2, which needs/provides:
    • Power (9V DC)
    • 1/4" in/out

Power

Using the Temple IECMOD bolted to the left side micro mod opening (which, PITA...). This is a switched IEC C14 inlet that passes through (with a 15.75" cable) to an IEC C13 lead. That connects to the Voodoo Lab power supply, which powers the Relay G75 receiver (RT516) via a Current Doubling Cable, and the FM3 via a cable I built from a CERRXIAN 3.93FT IEC 320 C13 Female cable and a NEMA 5-15P plug (the openings on the Temple board aren’t large enough for either end to pass through, so I built the cable in situ).

Mounting

The screw holes for the end pieces line up perfectly with the grid holes on the Temple board. I used M3.5-0.6 20mm screws, M4 washers, and Blue Loctite to mount. I left the handles installed (didn’t want to open the chassis to remove them), which, when mounted flush with the lower edge of the DUO 24, makes for a total height of 6.5", which eliminates many travel cases (FYI). The official Temple Flight case won’t fit. Anyway.

Inputs

  • Instrument Signal: From the Relay G75 receiver via a 1' patch cable.
  • Accompaniment: A BTR5 Bluetooth receiver (in low gain mode, volume set to about 45) I had lying around. (If I was going to buy new, I’d probably pick this $20 BTR11.) Connects to the FM3’s IN2 1/4" jacks via this Cable Matters 3.5mm TRS to Dual 6.35mm TS Breakout Cable
  • Drum Machine/Metronome: When I’m using the BeatBuddy, that patches in (inline with one of the IN2 cables for ease) via a standard 3' 1/4" patch cable.

Outputs

Picked this up used in good condition (though the wireless transmitter 1/4" cable cuts in and out, and I can’t find a replacement locking cable; I’d love to locate a ___).

Mounting

Input

I have the TB516 transmitter connected to my guitars (all of which have the jack on the side) via this 1.5' patch cable, which is just shy of being long enough (I’d prefer to have the pack further up on the strap, well away from the body of the guitar, though wrapped in the Levy’s holder I’m not super concerned).

Output

To the FM3 via a 1' patch cable.
