USB charging: Time to level up

For more than 7 years I’ve been relying on a “charging station” on a shelf in a small closet just inside my front door. It‘s built around this 40W 5-port Anker USB charging hub, and until last night, it was adequate. Sure, each port topped out at a maximum of 10W, but as devices hung out there overnight to be ready to go the next day, slightly slower charging wasn't really an issue.

But then I discovered my Apple MagSafe battery pack had only charged about 66%, despite being connected for more than a day. I dug into it a bit and discovered that, at its peak, the pack was getting just under 12W (5.1V ⎓ 2.3A).

I paid $20 for the Anker in 2015, IIRC to facilitate flying (charging up an iPad mini and first an XGPS150A then a Stratus, a GoPro, the PowerAdd Slim2 [RIP] I used to augment the GoPro’s built-in battery...). It’s served me well, and it’s still working fine.

But with increasingly thirsty USB devices, maybe it’s time to augment? Something with at least two higher wattage USB-C PD ports. Maybe this UGREEN 100W unit?
