I made a video in Final Cut Pro X.
This shouldn’t be blog post worthy. I mean, I used to be a contendah. I knew Adobe Premiere 4.2 inside and out (including how long a video could be before the lack of 29.97 support would cause noticeable audio drift). I built non-linear editing systems – that could capture multiple minutes of solid SVHS footage without dropping frames, using the latest Ultra DMA 33 PATA drives on dedicated IDE channels, with i430TX / i440BX chipset motherboards – built around the Iomega Buz, the Matrox Rainbow Runner Studio, the Pinnacle miroMotion DC30plus. I was a beta tester for Premiere 5.0. I knew this stuff! But that was ... A number of years ago. And the Final Cut X interface is, well, different.
So I sat down with a Udemy course and got up to speed with the basics. I now, more or less, know my way around the magnetic timeline, &c.
I couldn’t find one good, succinct, complete, video on changing the batteries in a Savi’s Workshop lightsaber, so I made one. Got to learn the voiceover tool, etc. It’s a bit rough, because I did it at like 1 a.m. But it’s serviceable, and I’m happy with it as a first effort.
(This ancient Core i3 iMac, on the other hand, not so happy. It’s been the “Sharing” background task, exporting the <2 minute video to YouTube, for more than 30 minutes as a type this, and it’s only at 46%!)
