Firefox Tweaks: Task Manager, Suppressing the Download Pop-Up, Compact Windows
How did I not know that Firefox has a task manager (about:performance (update: and about:processes)) where you can determine what tabs (and add-ons) are using significant resources? (If you’re not using Firefox, well, you should be.)
In a related development, newer Firefox versions have started popping up the download list whenever you download something. I find it annoying, frankly:
Luckily, it’s easy to turn that feature off. Enter about:config in the location bar, and then toggle browser.download.alwaysOpenPanel to false:Firefox in later versions seems to take up more screen real estate. A couple of tweaks reduce that:
about:config
→ browser.compactmode.show = true
and, ☰ menu → More Tools → Customize toolbar ...
In the menus at the bottom of that window, disable the bookmarks toolbar and set the density to compact:
It’s still not quite as sleek as it could be, but it’s better...
