I’ve tried a bunch. These Moleskine dupes . (Pen always somehow went missing.) This thing (came close, but without a way to secure it closed, the pages got trashed; the pen is cute though). But I think I’ve found The One™: Leather Field Notes Cover from Etsy seller Tarberry; $21.50 currently (on sale), I got it in black, not personalized. I like that it snaps closed. The ability to stash some emergency cash and a card or three if you were so inclined, are bonuses. Clairefontaine Staplebound 3.5X5.5 notebooks ; $13. I’ve generally had good experience with Clairefontaine paper, if I use it with a fountain pen, etc. I’ve been using these since my days buying pens and an endless supply of journals from Writer’s Bloc [rip]. The other main option are the Field Notes inserts. Currently, a Zebra F-301 I had handy.  I’m likely to swap that for something like a Sakura Pigma Micro , “will not smear or feather when dry,” “waterproof and chemical proof,” etc. (I’ve had, e.g., an improperly...

Work from Home Setup - Holiday Wireless Edition

Image
The balcony iMac has moved inside for the winter. The Labrador is, at 2 ½  years old, still not to be trusted. The combination has my dining room table sharing space between the tree and the iMac. I just set everything up to be as comfy as possible. Pictured: The  Bose QC35 II  headphones, a very competent wireless headset for calls, Zoom meetings, etc. (Though of course, now apparently superseded by the QC45 model.) Minor annoyance: After about 3 years of light-to-moderate use, the leather on the earpads is starting to flake off. I have Wicked Cushions replacements on the way.  Keychron K8 with Kailh Box Jades (swapping to Boba U4 RGB 62g switches in an RGB / Aluminum K8 , as soon as they get here). Got this monitor stand with built in USB hub and wireless phone charger on a Black Friday sale. Cheap Bluetooth laser mouse (a $20  Insignia NS-PNM3B8BK , works surprisingly well; side button functionality enabled with SensibleSideButtons ). Noble Fir 5'...

Writing Bliss

Image
Don’t you love it when everything aligns and you end up with a writing experience that’s just awesome ? That happened. Pen.   Lamy Safari Fountain Pen - Charcoal - Fine  with a Z24 converter . I’ve had probably half a dozen of these pens; they’re nothing fancy, but they’re durable and comfortable and write smoothly. (Not so much the Extra Fine nibs, though.) Ink.   Noodler’s Bad Blue Heron . I’ve had this bottle forever (long enough, I think I sourced it from the sadly departed Writer’s Bloc site). For whatever reason, it seems to write much more smoothly than the Noodler’s Polar Blue Eternal I’ve also used in this pen. Pad.   TOPS Docket Diamond . (And also, of course, a Moleskine .) If the thin-backed crappy yellow legal pads the office otherwise gets from I don’t even know where is freeze dried Taster’s Choice instant coffee, these pads are the local supermarket’s gourmet expensive stuff you can taste . Little luxuries.
